Blind & Curtain Fitting in Reading

Roller, venetian, roman, vertical & curtain pole installation

Blind fitting is one of those jobs that looks straightforward until you're standing on a step stool with a bracket in each hand, trying to hold a spirit level at the same time. Get the bracket positions wrong and the blind hangs crooked. Use the wrong fixing for the wall material and it pulls out within a few weeks. I fit blinds and curtain poles properly across Reading and Berkshire — level, secure, and looking exactly as they should.

The most common problem I see with DIY blind fitting is wrong fixings — using a standard wood screw in plasterboard, or a small plug that's not rated for the weight. UPVC window frames and tiled window surrounds need specific fixings too. I assess the substrate first and use the correct fixing for every installation.

⚠️ DIY Blind Fitting Tips — What to Watch Out For

  • Always identify your wall substrate before drilling. Plasterboard, solid brick, UPVC frame and wooden frame all require different fixings and different drill bits. Using the wrong approach means fixings that pull out.
  • Drill holes to the correct depth — not just the correct diameter. A hole that's too shallow means the plug can't expand properly. Mark the depth on your drill bit with masking tape before you start.
  • Screw size must match the plug size. A screw that's too thin for its plug spins without gripping. A screw that's too large splits the plug. Check the plug packaging for the recommended screw gauge.
  • Use the correct drill bit for the material. Masonry bits for brick and plaster, wood bits for timber frames, and specialist bits for UPVC. A masonry bit in a wood frame won't drill cleanly and can split the frame.

Blind Fitting FAQ

Do I need to supply the blinds?

Yes — you supply the blinds and I fit them. If you need advice on sizing before ordering, send me the window measurements and I can advise on inside or outside recess fitting.

Can you fit blinds on UPVC windows?

Yes. UPVC windows require specific no-drill or specialist fixing options. I assess the frame and use the appropriate method for a secure fit without damaging the window.

How many blinds can you fit in one visit?

As many as needed. Most customers have me fit all the blinds in the house in a single appointment — it's much more efficient than separate visits.

Do you fit curtain poles too?

Yes — including bay window poles and tracks which are more complex. Send me a photo and I'll advise on the best approach for your window configuration.
