- Never attempt welding without adequate eye protection. Welding arc produces UV radiation far more intense than sunlight. Even a brief glance without a proper welding mask causes "arc eye" — a painful condition similar to sunburn on the cornea.
- Never weld in an enclosed space without proper ventilation. Welding fumes contain metal oxides and gases that are dangerous. Always ensure good airflow, or use respiratory protection designed for welding fumes.
- Sparks travel further than you expect. Clear a 3-metre radius of anything flammable before striking an arc. Sparks land silently and can smoulder in fabric or wood for minutes before igniting.
