TV wall mounting sounds simple until you're standing on a ladder with a 65-inch screen, you've drilled in the wrong place, and you're not entirely sure what's behind the wall. I've mounted hundreds of TVs across Reading and Berkshire — on solid brick, on dot-and-dab plasterboard, on stud walls, on stone chimneys — and the approach is different for every one. Getting it wrong means a TV that tilts, fixings that pull out, or cables running visibly down the wall.

Before I drill anything I check what's behind the wall — pipes, cables, noggins. Then I select the right fixing for the substrate, position the bracket at the correct height for your sofa and viewing distance, and discuss cable management before a single hole is made. The finished result is a TV that's level, secure, and looks like it was always meant to be there.

⚠️ TV Mounting Tips — What to Watch Out For

  • Know your wall substrate before you drill anything. A solid masonry fixing and a plasterboard hollow wall anchor are completely different products. Using the wrong one for a heavy TV is how TVs end up on the floor.
  • Plan your cabling before the bracket goes up. Once the TV is mounted it's much harder to route cables neatly. Decide where your cables will run — through the wall, in surface trunking, or dropped behind furniture — before you start.
  • TV height matters more than people think. The centre of the screen should typically be at eye level when seated — not at standing head height. Most DIY mounts end up too high, which causes neck strain over time.
  • Check for light sources that reflect off the screen. A TV positioned opposite a window or directly under a ceiling light can be unwatchable at certain times of day. It's worth standing in the room at different times before committing to a position.

TV Mounting FAQ

Can you mount a TV on a plasterboard wall?

Yes. I use high-load hollow wall anchors specifically rated for TV mounting on plasterboard. I'll check the weight of your TV and bracket and select the appropriate fixing to ensure it's completely secure.

Do you hide the cables?

Yes — I offer cable management as standard. This can be surface trunking (a channel that runs along the wall), in-wall routing (cables hidden inside the wall), or drop-behind-furniture routing depending on your wall type and preference.

Do I need to supply the bracket?

You can supply your own bracket or I can recommend and supply one. If you already have a bracket, send me the model so I can confirm it's suitable for your TV weight and wall type before the appointment.

How long does TV mounting take?

Most standard TV mounting jobs take 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on wall type and cable management requirements.
