Flat Pack Furniture Assembly in Reading

IKEA, Argos, Wayfair and all flat pack brands across Berkshire

Flat pack furniture assembly is one of those jobs that takes most people twice as long as expected and half as well as hoped. Either the instructions make no sense, a piece gets put in backwards, or the cam locks strip on the second attempt. Once the chipboard is damaged it's very hard to recover. I assemble flat pack furniture properly the first time — methodically, carefully, and without forcing anything.

I work with all brands — IKEA, Argos, Wayfair, Dunelm, John Lewis, Made.com — and all types of furniture including wardrobes, bed frames, chest of drawers, desks, bookcases, dining tables, TV units and office furniture. I bring my own tools so you don't need to supply anything except the boxes.

⚠️ Flat Pack Assembly Tips — The Most Important Rule

  • Read the full instructions before you start — not as you go. This is the single most important rule in flat pack assembly. Understanding the sequence of steps before you begin means you won't reach step 8 and discover that step 3 needed to be done differently. Undoing steps in flat pack furniture almost always damages it — cam lock holes strip, dowel holes enlarge, and chipboard edges compress. The time spent reading instructions at the start saves double the time at the end.
  • Never overtighten cam locks or bolts. Chipboard has a finite tolerance. A cam lock that goes past finger tight can strip its housing, and there's no repair — the piece needs replacing.
  • Lay parts out before assembly. Identify every component against the parts list before you start. Missing a part halfway through is much worse than discovering it in the box before you begin.

Furniture Assembly FAQ

Do I need to be home during assembly?

You need to be home to let me in, but you don't need to supervise. Most customers get on with their day while I work through the assembly.

Can you assemble multiple items in one visit?

Yes — this is the most efficient approach. Send me a list of what you need assembled and I'll quote for all of it in a single visit.

What if a part is missing or damaged?

I'll identify missing or damaged parts before assembly starts. Most manufacturers send replacement parts quickly — I'll let you know exactly what's needed so you can contact the retailer.

Do you cover Reading and surrounding areas?

Yes — Reading, Caversham, Woodley, Earley, Tilehurst, Theale, Pangbourne, Shinfield, Henley-on-Thames, Twyford and surrounding Berkshire villages.
